I don't know the particulars of this tragic story so I'm not going to comment on that part of it. I hope that the family finds some measure of peace.

I just find it interesting that right wingers in the U.S. expect that when a person has a kid, that they should be responsible for it and not expect the taxpayers to provide food, housing, clothing, etc. Yet in this situation the govt. (aka the taxpayers) should pony up. Why is that?

Typically, when someone steps outside of the socialized medical system, they are prepared to fork over cash. Kind of like the Canadians who come down here to receive adequate treatment for things that they can't get taken care of back home.

So what was the deal in this situation, were the parents forbidden to do so for some reason, even though they could afford to?
 
How is this monstrous outcome even a left/right political argument, and not a human rights/liberty one?

Alfie Evans was sentenced to die by his government. His crime was an undiagnosed illness that the NHS did not believe was a worthpile expenditure to treat, or test. This however wasn’t their monstrous crime. Their monstrous crime was their preventing his parents from seeking other avenues for his care. This begs the question of; if cost was the factor, why not let his parents do as they wished? I can only surmise it is due to extreme hubris. Imagine if Alfie Evans treatment by someone other than them, saved his life. That would be proof of the rotten lie that sucks billions from the working class to prop up a less than mediocre healthcare system. Proof that socialized healthcare IS the snake that eventually must eat its own tail.

Alfie's parents are now tragic figures left to mourn their child with the knowledge of their impotence to save him. To save him from the tyranny of the NHS.

Yes....the parents were offered help from a Vatican hospital, free...even free transportation was being provided...and they were forbidden by the state to take their kid to Italy to see if their was any chance for helping Alfie...however remote ......
however small that chance was....the state overruled the parents wishes....
This have nothing to do with the care he received in the UK or abortion, but everything to do with parents rights.....
