The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born

Of course it does. So does our education (or lack thereof), our parents' beliefs, friends/family/colleagues' opinions, etc.

When discussing things with those who take the word of god/Jesus literally, because they see Him as an "authority figure," we will often quote from their holy book to show that in our opinion, they are misguided, if not flat out wrong. That's when the circus really gets going, as they do contortions, back flips, and back themselves into the lions' cage trying to defend their errors.

Oh dear. I mentioned lions. How unforgiveable of me.

I meant religion should not dictate governmental policy. A person's political views are not wrong because of anything the Bible says.

Could you provide an example of a poster "defending their errors"?

Sadly many of them, IMHO, have become that which they hate....

They don't come to talk about Jesus, but to talk about trump, their political party....

Not love & free will, but the laws/courts etc-like their fathers the Pharisees
..

Ironic, isn't it? Like Stretch's Bible-quoting (out of context! oh the agony lol) meant to excuse her and her ilk from NOT following the Word of God, Post #324, by NOT doing as Jesus commanded the faithful. When she retires from obscure message forum preaching, she's got a great job waiting for her with Cirque du Soleil.

Basically these kind of religionists are just lazy, like most of the human race. It's a lot easier to run around proclaiming one's allegiance to some cause or faith or cult. It's a lot harder to actually do what's supposed to be required to actually be a member. Kind of like the person who claims to be working in animal rescue, but who does nothing but sit at home day after day posting sad animal shares on social media. Or the social justice activist whose only real activity is signing on-line petitions and sharing them with other social justice slackers.

I see. So you also support separation of church and state?

Could you provide an example of a poster "defending their errors"?

If you read Stretch's posts on this thread, you'll see exactly what I mean. When it is pointed out that her failure to speak up against the ill treatment of the illegals being rounded up is contrary to Jesus's teachings, she claims that only SHE knows the REAL word of god and the rest of us are taking everything from the Bible out of context. The take-away is that if the govt. is doing something evil and anti-Scripture, it's okay because Jesus said to ignore that govt. stuff. Those kind of evangelicals would have been quite at home in 1930s Germany, or 1800s America.

So Bill Deblasio is a Saint!

NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio: '“Here's the truth, brothers and sisters, there's Plenty of Money in This Country, It's Just in the Wrong Hands'

There's so many Saints who say Your money is in the wrong Hands...

Midtown shelter near Billionaires’ Row clears legal hurdle as some residents object
The West 58th Street shelter is one of 90 shelters the city plans to open under Mayor Bill de Blasio’s “Turning the Tide” initiative to alleviate the homeless crisis in the city.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/manhat...s-neighborhood-group-plans-appeal-11560380518

For Richards, who represents Far Rockaway, Hollis and Springfield Gardens, this is simply unfair. His district hosts nearly 3,000 shelter beds — the most in the city, data show. Most of these homeless families and individuals stay in hotels that cost on average $350 a night. In a one block area near JFK Airport off South Conduit, there are four hotels housing hundreds of homeless individuals — Days Inn, Holiday Inn, Best Western and Metro Inn.
His district has a relatively low poverty rate (between 8% and 20%), but communities with high levels of poverty also bear this burden far more than affluent zip codes.
Of the top 20 community districts with the highest number of homeless beds/units, 15 have poverty rates over 20%. Six have poverty rates over 50%.
The mayor, who has watched the number of homeless in city shelters rise from 53,000 to over 60,000 during his tenure, is struggling to reverse the course in a balanced way.
In unveiling his latest blueprint for reform Feb. 28, he vowed to shut down the cluster sites and hotels and build 90 new shelters citywide through 2021 but promised to try and distribute the burden across all neighborhoods, whether rich or poor...

"I like the ideas of keeping people in their communities," said Richards. "But at the end of the day, you can find places where there are adequate schools, where there are opportunities and housing that's affordable."
When de Blasio tried to turn a hotel into a 110-unit men's shelter in predominantly white, middle income Maspeth, Queens last fall, the neighborhood erupted. Protestors ultimately forced the provider who was going to run the shelter to pull out.
Last week, furious residents of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, cited the Maspeth reversal as they contested a new men's shelter set to open soon in their neighborhood during a public hearing. Residents of Brooklyn's Community Board 8, which is 67% black with a poverty rate of 26%, railed against what they called an oversaturation of shelters in their neighborhood. They have 679 beds.

Some have demanded that new shelters be placed in more affluent neighborhoods with few shelters, such as the mayor's neighborhood, Park Slope. The mayor's Community District 6 is 75% white and host to a relatively modest 267 beds.
"Go into communities that have zero that have not had their fair share. Have them address this," said Richards.

It's no fun preaching to the choir. It's okay that they post here. Their words drive more and more ppl away from the mythology and into reality than anything 100 atheists could do.

That's true, what is amazing is that they don't know that, or just don't care.......

It's a Forum for starting threads on religion. Are you saying that all the non believers in this Forum don't
know they can go there to start threads regarding religion instead of in here which is for politics?

This is a political forum. This thread was was initiated on a religious topic. If you want to talk religion, the religion forum is the place to do it.

He said only if you want to.........

He also said that the gubment giving help to those that are ignored by society AND THE CHURCH, shouldn't recieve assisance from the gubment, to do so is evil in the sight of the Lord.....
In truth Jesus was smart enough to know to stay out of politics. Trying to apply Christ's teaching to a political state is a fool's game.
Christianity is a personal relationship - with God.

Evangelicals like to insert WWJD into our politics-but it's not correct because of the 1st.
Anymore then Progressive separatist insist it has NO place in politics. Also because of the 1st.

Libs seem to want us to be a theocracy now. Great. Let's do it.
It would be nice if you, and other self-described Christians, would actually act the part, instead of continuously demonstrating what complete phonies you are.

I expect that if He were to weigh in now, given the complexity of our world, he would exhort His followers to do something to change government policy in order to follow His command to "love thy neighbor as thyself." Central and South America are, of course, our neighbors. What if we invested foreign aid to build up their countries, work to empower them to get rid of their corrupt governments, and encourage capitalism from the lowest-income people on up? Eco-tourism, native crafts and arts, farming including exotic plants and fruits, and other ways to make a decent living with a minimum of capital investment are what the Peace Corp, missionaries, Oxfam and others have tried to bring in to third world countries. But first off, they need help ridding themselves of those cartels and criminals that prey on them.

One of the first things that would be necessary to make that happen would be reform of our drug laws, which are what built the cartels.
