The basis of American conservatism is capitalism and free markets. The basis. You are saying an economic system that has brought more people out of poverty and brought a higher standard of living than any other is the worst thing that has ever happened to humanity. You are saying that's worse than communism.

Actually, capitalism was the source of poverty and misery until the onset of government regulation and the rise of unions. That's what brought a higher standard of living and vreated the modern middle class. Before that, what you had was the very rich and the very poor, with next to nothing in between. Which is just what you see in countries where unrestrained capitalism is the rule.

The tax cuts gave almost nothing to most consumers, so little benefit to growth there. Businesses have been sitting on mounds of cash that they haven't invested because without sufficient consumer spending to provide a sufficient return on investment there's no reason to invest. The rich continue to restrict consumer spending by sucking up most of the income for themselves, which, of course, limits economic growth, thus reducing their own increase in wealth.

the reality is that many Democrats, southern or otherwise, switched parties......the reason may have been LBJ, but it wasn't his fictitious support for Civil Rights.....the reason certainly involved Carter who's fucked up economics certainly made me switch and vote for Reagan....
