Smollett says it was not true about the MAGA hats so where did that come from? The only reference to MAGA was his claim that the assailants shouted "this is MAGA country", not that anybody was wearing a hat.

Empire star Jussie Smollett has revealed his attackers were not wearing MAGA hats. The assumption was a rumor, he alleged in his first interview about the attack with Good Morning America on Thursday.

“I never said that. I didn’t need to add anything like that,” he told host Robin Roberts of the rumored hats. “They called me a f*****. They called me a “n*****.” There’s no which way you cut it. I don’t need some MAGA hat as the cherry on top of some racist sundae.”

I can use the conservative argument of redirecting the blame and saying that the MAGA hat business was dreamed up by trump supporters as something to use against Smollett.

I haven't followed every single word said about this event. I was paraphrasing what he claimed was yelled. The point being the assailants yelled something pro-Trump at him. That was the big contributor to making this national news. When I read friends on Facebook talking about this it was all about Trump and his racism and this being the result.

So you are free to not want to understand why Trump supporters would be interested in this story if it turns out to be false but I don't know what else to tell you.

Good thing he was on the phone with his manager when this happened....right? ....we know he didn't drop the phone...for sure;) and that police weren't called for 40 minutes... We also‘ know he deleted things before he finally gave it to police (which is a :nonono: etcetc...
Is there any wonder people don't believe his version>?

Your FB friends are right. There's been an uptick in hate crimes since trump was elected and his incivility feeds them. I didn't say caused them, but made some people feel more comfortable expressing their bigotry.

Ok, it should be pretty obvious why the story has made national news and if it is made up why that would be big news as well.

You could have stopped at the first paragraph.

The media will jump on ANYTHING that makes Trump and/or Trump supporters look bad. And they’re so anxious to do it all skepticism goes out the window.
