New Chinese lockdown illustrates the gross stupidity of ' opening ' America

Gee...who could've seen that coming?

But will WE learn from it? Hell no. Did you see the morons parading around our state capitol (Lansing MI) yesterday? They were supposed to stay in their vehicles for their protest. Instead they got out and marched around. No masks, no six feet apart, even brought kids. Some also brought confederate flags because nothing says freedom and American values like a racist symbol of treason. WTF was that all about?

It was a display of just how stupid the right really is. "We demand you stop trying to save our lives! We demand the right to get sick, cost our families thousands, and then die! Murica! We're number one (in cases)!"

Yep. Saw that. Let's monitor them and see how that worked out.

Sounds good. Hope none of them were from up here.
NY just passed a mandatory mask while in public law. Doesn't have to be a mask, and only has to cover the face when you are within 6 feet of another person. I haven't been wearing one, but I've only been to Home Depot, Shoprite, and one job that I have going on. So long as one of us has a mask on when we're near each other, then we're both safe. I keep sanitizer in the vehicles, and when I enter the grocery store I use their sanitizer and slather it all over the cart handle.

I don't touch my face until I get home and wash my hands.

I'll start to wear a mask now, given the new regulation. I didn't want to be the one who looked paranoid. I always saw the value of workers wearing them, as they're constantly in contact with hundreds of people.

If you follow these protocols, those idiots you referenced shouldn't be a worry for you.

My biggest danger is right in my home. My GF is a nurse in a local hospital.

I hope that she stays well, and doesn't bring you home anything but her love.

Most ppl here are wearing masks in the stores. Even saw a jogging couple wearing masks the other day. I also wear exam gloves that are pitched after putting the cart back in the cart corral.

Hello ThatOwlWoman,

Denial is the strongest plank of the current WH administration.

DT said the decision to open the country back up would be the most important decision he has to make.

Looks like he is rushing it for political reasons because the impacted economy does not reflect well on his election chances.

I am a student of mathematics. I have been studying the numbers. I can tell you that what the president said yesterday, that 'the peak is behind us,' is not correct.

The numbers are still going up, up, up.

There are some promising indications in the rate of rise. It does appear we are seeing the rate of rise getting smaller. But we will not be at the peak until the rate of increase in Active Cases reaches zero.

Active Cases will reach a peak when the number of new cases is smaller than the number of newly resolved cases. (Resolved cases being the number of recoveries and deaths)

Here's the math: (Total Cases) - (Recoveries + Deaths) = Active Cases.

We need to see the Active Cases reach a peak, and then begin falling before we are 'past the peak.' That has not occurred yet.

I have tracked the numbers daily for the past week.

I began a thread dedicated to identifying the peak.

The information is all here, with links, at:

Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Here is what the numbers show:

Date ... Cases ......Difference from previous day

4-9 ... 420,611

4-10 ... 451,236 ........ +30,625

4-11 ... 479,252 ........ +28,016

4-12 ... 505,561 ........ +26,309

4-13 ... 526,353 ........ +20,792

4-14 ... 549,019 ........ +22,666

4-15 ... 566,859 ........ +17,840

You see what's happening?

The rise in Active Cases is getting smaller. That's a good thing!

When that difference gets to zero, we are at the peak of Active Cases.

But we are not there yet.

My best wishes to both of you.
Thanks. We'll be fine. Although, there is still an issue that might be a big concern for us. We typically triple our population every summer with a huge influx of NYC residents. Those same residents are a large part of the problem NYC had in the early stages. Right now, I believe their travel will be restricted.

I believe there will be travel restrictions, when NO was a hot spot, Texas had check points to try to stop the infected.

Don't forget the gas pump! I use gloves when I pump gas. I use a paper towel when I make a deposit at the ATM. If the gloves are necessary for an extended period of time, I just apply sanitizer to them or wash my hands with them on.

These figures are for the U.S. only?

I wish that chart included tests given for more accuracy. You can't determine whether the number of new cases daily is decreasing without comparing it to the number of tests administered. IOW we could be seeing fewer new cases simply because we're testing less.

We hope so. The sticky situation is that our governor, who everyone now loves across the nation, panders to this group because they vote as a block. He won't even mention them by name when he references 'certain areas of NYC'.

He's got a decision to make. I'm hoping that he does the right thing. I honestly believe he will.

Good points.

Then proceed to pick the bags up and carry them into your house that have been touched by a hundred people. To say nothing of the groceries themselves.....LOL

<checks the gag> Nope, the racist hillbilly pussy is still unheard.

Meh. Virus lives for two days max on hard surfaces, 3 hours on porous surfaces. Just wash your hands often.

I strongly suspect that this is Trump inspired.
