Very, Very Scary’: Officials Dumbfounded as Florida Beaches Reopen, 3 Days After Death Spike

This virus is no game and due to gross incompetence of Trump, we don't have nationwide testing plan in place either?!!

The state of Florida passed two milestones in the corona-virus pandemic this week: its deadliest day yet, and the reopening of several public beaches.

Hundreds of people flocked to the newly opened beaches in northern Florida on Friday evening, just two weeks into Gov. Ron DeSantis’ month long stay-at-home order began. The state is the first of several to start slowly reopening public spaces even as the novel corona-virus continues to spread.

DeSantis announced Saturday that K-12 schools would remain closed for the rest of the school year, saying he did not want to force families who were uncomfortable with the idea to return to classrooms. Just a day earlier, however, he green-lit the reopening of some beaches, arguing that Floridians needed fresh air.

The pubic has been training for 6-8 weeks on how to social distance in grocery stores, and protect more vulnerable family members and friends.

I think the American public is smart enough to do it outdoors as well. It is a natural first step.

Let's see. You're walking along the beach with your honey, being very careful to keep six feet between you and all non-honeys. It's a pleasant breezy day and the wind is in your face. The guy in front of you, also walking with his honey, keeps coughing and coughing. So does his honey. Since they're outside at the beach, they don't bother with covering their mouths.

Where do you think all that coughed-up vapor is going to go?

ETA: Here's a rather nauseating time lapse video of one of the re-opened beaches. The ppl seem to be avoiding each other except for what appears to be family groups. This looks safe enough.

Looks to me like family groups. And the picture angle makes people look closer together than they actually are.

its the same stretch of beach that's in the video I posted above.......you are right about picture angle as you can tell from the shot taken in the middle of the "crowd"......

It's just amazing that there are so many who are willing to put their well-being needlessly at risk, and this will put addition burden on our over worked health care workers, who are already putting themselves at risk.

People are amazingly selfish at times. On Saturday my daughter and son-in-law posted pics of the neighbors who have the house behind them. They were having a large party outside in their backyard and playing some sort of "corn hole" game (don't know what that is). At first they were amused and SIL said: "I'm so desperate for sports Imma watch this." lol But then a couple more cars showed up with a half dozen small kids between them. My daughter called the police but was told that even though such gatherings are against the state's stay-at-home order, they were powerless to intervene. Hopefully no one got sick from that, but what a stupid thing to do!
