There is no excuse for it. It's profiling.

It's what people are talking about now w/ changing the way the police are, fundamentally. People should only be pulled over if they are doing something that violates the law. They shouldn't be pulled over because people who have the same skin color may commit more crime statistically, so hey, maybe there is a chance we can find something illegal w/ this driver even though he/she isn't doing anything wrong...

So, you admit that blacks are targeted. It's not just pullovers, either. It's getting frisked, pushed to the concrete, verbally abused, etc.

But they should just accept that, and that they'll always have a disadvantage in that area. Because it's inconvenient to actually address it.

I'm with you. Racially diverse partners would be a start. That will require more black cops. So they should hire more.

They exist. Why do work for people who are guaranteed dismiss them, or shove them aside and move on to the next thing?
It's like lies and fact checking. One can be done too easily.

Hell this was a proven fact 30 years ago when I was in law school studying crim pro. The issue was never "is it true that..." The issue was
can you use statistical evidence to prove anything relevant about a single case. Nobody seriously questions the disparity.

It would be illegal for a cop to pull over due to skin color. You have to make a driving violation.

If a cop did this, any case against the driver would be tossed. Lawsuit filed and cop likely fired.

Yup.

To whatever extent it goes on, if the driver simply does the same things everyone should, it’s going to end well. Cop runs the license, gives it back to the driver, have a good day officer etc.

If the cop pulls you over for essentially, nothing, there just isn’t much else he can do.

I’m Lilly white and graced with all manner of privileges that come with my whiteness; yet, I know not to cop an attitude with a cop. If the cop tells me to get out of the car—I get out of the car. In spite of my whiteness, I’m fully aware that, if I start to resist, things can get a little rough and I could get hurt.

No, I will very likely get hurt in some form or fashion. Perhaps even, become an *outlying statistic* and be killed by the cop.

But since I’m white, it would only be local news.

That's another big difference. Blacks are usually HIGHLY confrontational with police. Instead of saying, what seems to be the problem officer, like whites or Asians, they say, WHY THE FUCK YOU PULL ME OVER!

See the difference from the start? See why they may treat one group different from another?
