Capitalism only works with honesty and integrity... otherwise only the corrupt rise.

can can tell me of any other type of economic system that works in the absence of honesty and integrity?.......

Capitalism and socialism do not exist. The countries you rightys mislabel as socialistic are capitalistic. They have companies, corporations, large and small businesses and people are free to work where they can find work and want to work. They are just like us. They just want to provide a better healthcare system and help their people with safety nets. They do not mind a heavier tax bill to pay for a kinder and gentler country. They all live better less stressed lives due to that.
But they are capitalists. They have rich people and poor, as we do. Why are rightys so infuriated at labels? Give it an emotional name and hate it without thought and evaluation.

You are correct, the absolutes do not exist. There are only shades of gray. Cuba has capitalistic elements, and Honduras has teeny amounts of socialism.

Hello Gonzomin,

Capitalism naturally morphs into a monopoly and controlling markets. In 1900 the sins of Capitalism were revealed and Teddy Roosevelt went on a trust-busting crusade. It has always been clear that the top will loot and cheat.
Regulation and control over corporations is for the benefit of the poor and weak. Corporations have always lied and cheated. Big PHARM has just been the latest example. Lives mean nothing when profit is concerned. How anyone belives regulation is the problem is a mystery.

No mystery. It's pure greed.

We need to fight companies for a cleaner environment and fair treatment of workers. The wealthy do not care about workers or citizens at all.

Some do, some don't. The bad ones make the good ones look bad.

Trump shows that too.

Trump is the epitome of making wealth look bad. Probably part of the reason old money will have nothing to do with him.

There are very strict rules about when you can charge 40% and almost never could we ever charge more. Plenty of businesses have much more than a 40% markup on their product.

That isn't a "markup"

You are gouging people. Even 30% is too much

No lawyer should make more than 5%. People are hurting and there you are taking advantage of them in their time of need. Legal services should not be for profit

And they should be forced to pay malpractice insurance like docs.

We need to institute ‘free’ legal care. That way lawyers will have their fees capped by the government so as to keep costs down. Actually, that goes for everyone who works in the system. Paralegals should have their wages cut and expect to work more for less money.

For the greater good of society.

Your opinion, but at 5% I would be unable to do what I do for a living. Insurance companies would be free to take advantage at will.

interesting that Jarod thinks the pain and suffering of his clients is his "product".........maybe he is partly right.........I'm sure he's caused lots of pain and suffering......

Capitalism is like an outdoor campfire with lots of people around it. But a few people close to the fire have gathered most of the wood to themselves, leaving very little for others to put on the fire. So it's really only warming the ones who are closest to it. They are purposely keeping the fire to their liking, and hording the wood. The fire could warm everybody if it was allowed to have more wood, but the greedy ones are too busy protecting their position to allow that and besides, if the fire got too hot it would burn them and they would have to back away from it which would put them more in the same position as most of the people; and they don't want that. They like being the selective few and they like being in control.
No, capitalism is finding or making something else to make a fire with. It was capitalism that started using coal instead of wood for fires.
So here we have a situation where a lot more could be produced in the way of heat, but greed prevents it from living up to it's true potential.
Nah. Just burn something else. That's what England did when they started running out of trees!
Just like the fire could be a lot bigger with more wood spread around, the economy could be much bigger with more wealth spread around.
* You cannot create energy out of nothing (1st law of thermodynamics). You only get so much energy out of the same wood, dumbass.
The rich are too busy making their own slice of the pie bigger by denying others to realize they could actually make the whole pie bigger and that would give them and everybody else more.
No, they go out and make their OWN pie.
Can you say 'chintzy?'
Sure. Makes no difference.

Capitalism naturally morphs into a monopoly
WRONG. Monopolies are self destructive because of capitalism.
and controlling markets.
WRONG. Capitalism is not market control. Anyone can play!
In 1900 the sins of Capitalism were revealed
WRONG. Many successful corporations started in 1900 that still exist today and still provide products and services people want today.
and Teddy Roosevelt went on a trust-busting crusade.
He wasn't in office to do that. He was President in 1900, when these corporations were first formed.
It has always been clear that the top will loot and cheat.
They don't. They can only exist as a company as long as they provide a product or service that people want at the price people are willing to pay. That's not lying or cheating.
Regulation and control over corporations is for the benefit of the poor and weak.
WRONG. That is fascism. That destroys corporations. They can no longer provide the service or product they see the market for. People can no longer buy the product they want.
Corporations have always lied and cheated.
Bigotry.
Big PHARM has just been the latest example.
Bigotry. Drug companies have provided a myriad of drugs that never existed before, and made them cheaper as well. We don't have to get our aspirin from plants anymore. We can synthesize it now. We have treatments for AIDS because of these companies. We've never had them before. We have the capability to perform surgery not possible before thanks to anti-immune drugs developed by these companies.
Lives mean nothing when profit is concerned.
Lie. They are saving lives. LOTS of them.

* Cancer patients are no longer under an automatic death sentence. We can treat some of them now, thanks to drug companies.
* Heart patients are no longer under an automatic death sentence. We can replace hearts now, thanks to drug companies.
* The homeless encampments in Los Angeles and San Francisco are no longer the source of a massive uncontrollable plague, thanks to antibiotics developed by drug companies. We can even treat Bubonic Plague now.
* Polio need not ravage through whole populations anymore, thanks to the drug companies.
How anyone believes regulation is the problem is a mystery.
Compositional error fallacy. There is a difference between protecting people from fake and scammy drugs like snake oil salesman and fascism.
We need to fight companies for a cleaner environment
It was companies that cleaned up the environment, dumbass. My own company is responsible for cleaning up much of Puget Sound. My own company has cleaned up a lot of air too. Other companies developed the EGR system for cars, making massive smog problems a thing of the past. They created the FADEC engines as well, making fuel mileage improve greatly over the old carburetors. They also developed the electric car into a practical commuting vehicle.

Regulations did NONE of it.
and fair treatment of workers.
If a corporation or company does not treat it's workers fairly, they won't HAVE workers. No one is forcing them to work there.
The wealthy do not care about workers or citizens at all.
Yes they do. Workers leave if they don't get paid enough or have poor working conditions. Citizens are often the customers. You don't last long without customers!
Trump shows that too.
Trump is a successful real estate developer. He knows business. He reduced taxes for everyone, not just the very rich. EVERYONE that pays taxes is paying less of them thanks to Trump. He reduced regulations stifling business too. Businesses are hiring. The unemployment rate in the United States is now the LOWEST IT HAS EVER BEEN since record keeping began.

Your opinion, but at 5% I would be unable to do what I do for a living. Insurance companies would be free to take advantage at will.

You couldn’t live on 5%?

How fucking greedy are you?

5% of a million dollar settlement is a lot of money. The money should go to the victims not line the pockets of some lawyer

You should be ashamed. People should not have to go bankrupt in order to have a legal defense.

There should be no profit in the legal system. It should be free from profit. It is only fair

Corruption is the sign of government eroding capitalism.

The only valid role of government is to settle disagreements, recognize when damages are caused by comnercial actions and coordinate same in international trade.
DJT is showing the way here by returning to fair trade and ending damaging corruption elsewhere.

How often do you think I get a $1 million case?

I should raise my family of five on $25,000 a year?

That wouldn’t even pay my paralegals salary.

Capitalism becomes a failure when it becomes the capitalization of cheap labor, lobbyist's self-interest, and huge campaign donations by those special interest groups.

Let's stop cheap labor in America! Let's end huge campaign donations! Let's end lobbying! And let's give Capitalism a chance to succeed instead of just being a symbol of GREED and ABUSE by the powerful, the fortunate, and the rich!

One of the problems with pure capitalism is there is no guidance. Capitalism just goes where it wants, does whatever it deems it needs to do, and then moves on without a care for what's left behind.

What's left behind is often social wreckage and ruined communities.

Gold mining is an example. A discovery of gold will bring prospectors, miners and every kind of supply chain they require. Soon, a new town is born. But don't put down roots. When the gold runs out you don't want to be caught holding the bag and owning a lot of property or business there. All of a sudden it becomes worthless.

Another might be the auto industry in America. Wow. After WWII we could build cars and buy our own products. Great jobs for thousands and great cars we loved. The rich lived in luxury and executives made 10-15 times the average worker pay, which was high enough to support a family on one income in modern comfort.

Those days are gone. Most of those jobs are too. Machines and much lower paid workers build the cars, much of the work in foreign countries. There are far fewer workers and they are not paid as much. Executives now make 400 times the average worker pay, which is not enough to support a family. It requires two workers to do that now. And even with two, many families are not as well off as they were in the good old days 'when America was great.'

The towns and cities that were built up around the auto factories thrived in the heyday. But after those jobs were lost everything turned around. Lotta people lost a lot of property value when that happened. Just like in the gold mining towns.

And capitalism just goes elsewhere, not caring about the fate of the communities which were built when capitalism moved in, and are now left behind with less means to build wealth or enjoy that middle class comfortable life. Capitalism doesn't care, because that is never part of the planning. There is no planning. Capitalism simply seeks profitability wherever it finds it and if profitability goes away then so does capitalism.

Proponents of capitalism think it's the end-all be-all of building a good life. But that's not always true. That's really only mostly true for capitalists, those who can invest, and do so wisely. For labor, especially lower paid labor which is unable to invest (capitalists favorite kind - lower cost, more exploitable,) capitalism can just as easily take away a good life as it can help build one. The wise worker needs to be very flexible and ready to change careers, possibly even know when to just move away to a more promising place, leaving all roots behind, including family and memories, parts of human character. Forget that, be ready to constantly reinvent yourself if you want to stay on track to build wealth as a worker at the whims of capitalism.

And it never hurts to be lucky and born into good circumstances.
