US Navy warns vessels to avoid the Strait of Hormuz
The US Navy has issued an advisory warning ships to consider avoiding the Strait of Hormuz.
Reuters news agency reported on the advisory, sent by the NCAGS agency, which said:
It wasn't clear whether the advisory was sent before or after Iran said it had reopened the economically crucial waterway.
For context: This advisory contrasts claims from Donald Trump and some of his top officials, who have repeatedly said that the US has control over the vital waterway.
There remain fears of the strait being blockaded, and how this would disrupt shipping long into the future.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) has reiterated the Islamic Republic's determination to defend, with all its might, the interests of its people, emphasizing that Iran will not compromise or bow down to the enemy's irrational demands.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Secretariat of the SNSC addressed and elaborated on a number of developments following the Pakistan-mediated ceasefire in the US-Israeli war on Iran and the negotiations afterwards.
Pointing to an earlier statement on the defeat of the enemies amid "the historic and unparalleled resistance of Iranian people and Armed Forces", the SNSC said the Americans began sending messages and requests for a ceasefire just after a week of launching their war; but it could materialize once the US president accepted Iran's 10-point proposal as the framework for negotiations.
According to the statement, the Iranian team attended the Islamabad talks to raise and pursue the demands of the nation with seriousness, despite the prevailing distrust of the United States, but 21-hour long negotiations ended without results due to new and ambitious demands of Washington.
It noted that the future talks depends on the enemy stopping being "ambitious, irrational" and modifying its demands in accordance with the realities on the ground, and in front of "a victorious and proud Iranian."
Referring to the recent visit of Pakistan's army chief to Tehran, the SNSC said Field Marshal Asif Munir, as a mediator and intermediary in the negotiations, delivered new proposals from the Americans, which the Islamic Republic has not yet responded to.
The SNSC promised the the Iranian negotiating team will not compromise, or retreat the slightest, and will defend with all its might the interests of the Iranian nation and preserve the independence, honor and pride of Iran, especially those who shed their blood for the sake of the Islamic Republic.
It also reminded that one of the essential preconditions of Iran was a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, which the Zionist enemy violated from the very beginning with its brutal attacks. With the pressure from Iran, the regime agreed to the ceasefire in Lebanon, it added.
On the Strait of Hormuz, it said the strategic waterway would be temporarily opened if the enemy respected the ceasefire on all fronts, adding that only commercial ships, not military vessels, would be allowed to sail through it, with the permission of the Iranian armed forces and via a specific route.
Iran is determined to exercise supervision and control over traffic through the Strait of Hormuz until the war is definitively ended and a lasting peace is achieved in the region, it emphasized, adding that American military bases in the region are equipped through the Strait and therefore, military vessels are a threat to the national security of Iran and the Persian Gulf region.
The statement concluded by warning the United States against a naval blockade, and said as long as the enemy intends to disrupt the passage of vessels, Iran would consider it a violation of the ceasefire and would prevent the conditional and limited opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
