Trump did not want to do the drive because it would have sucked up so much time, much more time than the event was worth in his estimation, this was reported at the time. Trump cant stand wasting time, it drives him nuts, especially when other people are wasting his time.

I did read your link. My link from Bloomberg is the actual radio interview with Bolton. I don't know how you can deny the words coming out of his own mouth today.

He should have thought of that before deciding to run for president. Like it or not he's expected to attend ceremonies like that on behalf of the country and we, the people he works for.
