No gotcha question here.

Just want to know who agrees with this massive increase, which will be significantly paid for by cutting Domestic focused programs targeted at helping US citizens at home and massive additions to the debt, as opposed to reprioritizing the current budget to meet goals while keeping the cost to tax payers somewhat static and domestic programs in tact?

Pentagon requests $1.5 trillion budget for troop raises, growing the force and producing weapons systems

"...The Trump administration is proposing a 42% increase in military spending compared to 2026. The proposal, first unveiled by the White House this month, would offset the increased military spending with an approximate 10% cut in nonmilitary programs...."

Trump budget seeks $1.5 trillion in defense spending alongside domestic program cuts

"...Trump, speaking ahead of an address to the nation this week about the Iran war, signaled the military is his priority, ...

"We're fighting wars..." ... "It's not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare — all these individual things," he said. ..."

Our military budget has always been bloated. They haven’t passed an audit in decades. I think it is the department that should be thoroughly audited for fraud and abuse.

Agreed.

I feel a significant part of the reason Trump cobbled together the coalition he did that lead to his win, was that he was going to end this prior decades long focus of ever increasing military budgets and foreign adventurism and using the US military as the World Police Man, and instead focus tax payer money on America First initiatives that would spend that money in the homeland in ways that paid back and benefitted the citizens.

Instead Trump is tripling down, with the largest military budget request IN US HISTORY (actual dollars and adjusted for inflation) while directly targeting the programs like Medicaid and Medicare and others that support citizens at home, to pay for it.

I remember a congressional investigation years ago on military spending. There was a woman auditor who exposed outrageous spending and cover-ups. She was ridiculed on CSPAN and she lost her job.https://ciaotest.cc.columbia.edu/olj/wpj/wpj_spring01b.html

I agree with the 10% cut in non-military spending!
Why are you so afraid to comment on whether you agree with the largest increase in military budget spending which Trump has said he needs for "...fighting more wars..."?

What makes you so cowardly that you will avoid stating any opinion on that?

...and trust me as we already know.

You cannot go against Daddy Trump as the cult does not allow that. But maybe being shamed into comment may get some luke warm response from you on it.

'MAYBE...'

42% is excessive. We shouldn't be making that large an increase, not even close. Satisfied now?

Yup.

Wanted to get you on record now (before you change later) even if that meant shaming you into a reply you clearly did not want to put on the record.

Anyway, i do not think you are unique, for what it worth. I think if other magats reply they will avoid answering that part, but most will just read and then close the thread without replying as they cannot reconcile this topic in a way to offer an honest answer. The America First magats should hate what Trump is saying and doing here more than the centrist/right Democrat would but they will just be stuck on how to reply because of the cult loyalty.

It's my understanding that the US spends 25 times more on military spending than any other nation, friend or foe.

A lot of it goes to war profiteers vastly overcharging the government for its goods.

Also, it's a great excuse for not being able to afford socialized medicine like civilized nations have.

I didn't know how to vote on the poll question because I admittedly have no idea as to what's REALLY going on.
Whom am I supposed to trust?

I do believe this, however.

The US Military should stop buying goods and services from the "for profit" private sector.
The private sector should be for consumer goods like clothes and cars for civilians.

The US Military should have its own factories and farms as part of the military budget.
Without over spending wildly for the benefit of war profiteers,
I'm almost certain that it would cost the taxpayers half as much, conservative estimate.

We spend more on the military than the next 9 countries. combined, most of them, before Trump, are allies. If you build it, you will use it, and use it we have again and again. Money squandered on weapons is money that cannot be spent on helping the people. Ike warned us about this in the 1950s. We ignored him and built the military/industrial complex that bleeds America every day.

Correct.

And the military is the one massive budget where they NEVER audit spending choices and decisions. Billions can be going directly or via the vastly inflated prices we constantly hear about and there is no audit function to identify and punish it.

Here are just a few examples of how price mark ups are used to enrich 'friends of the military'.

Examples of Price Markups
  • $90,000 Bag of Bushings: In early 2024, the Air Force was scrutinized for paying $90,000 for a single bag of metal bushings that normally costs less than $100 on the open market.
  • $149,000 Soap Dispensers: A 2024 Pentagon Inspector General report found that Boeing (BA) overcharged the Air Force by nearly 8,000% for soap dispensers on C-17 transport planes.
  • $52,000 Trash Can: The Air Force reportedly spent $52,000 on a single trash can for the E3 Century radar plane.
  • $71 Metal Pin: TransDigm was cited for charging $71.01 for a metal pin that costs roughly 4 cents to manufacture—a 177,000% markup.
  • $1,280 Coffee Cups: The Air Force faced backlash for spending $32,000 to replace just 25 coffee cups (roughly $1,280 per cup) because the handles frequently broke.

Even the current Congress is dismayed by the costs, extended duration, and lack of achievement of Trump's ill-advised partnership with Israel.

We need only endure, and America will fold like a cheap tent. The US military always cuts and runs eventually.

They have wasted blood, treasure, and political capital repeatedly since 1945.

When will the Americans learn?

Your poll is a false dichotomy, dismissed out of hand.

Let me guess.

When Trump asks for the largest increase in military spending ever while talking about which war the US will engage in next and saying '...we are fighting wars... we cannot also have these domestic spending priorities...', while naming medicaid and medicare, you are one of those magats who claps like a seal saying ... YES that is America first!!!

this is all total bullshit.
