Most of what the US spends on is salary. The US military pays far in excess of what other militaries pay their members.

The private sector should be for consumer goods like clothes and cars for civilians.

Do you know how absurdly expensive that would be? The military with no profit motive has no reason to be efficient. Aside from that, all of those factories and farms require specialized personnel to run and operate them. You'd have to pay for that experience. The cost would be ungodly high.
