The Fauci cult of personality thing is creepy.

Fauci is just *one of many* epidemiologists. Why is it wrong to question him or hold him beyond reproach? The *man is in charge* of having the country prepared for things like this and I would say his performance/preparation has been something less than stellar.

That’s not scapegoating, that judging an obscenely paid bureaucrat on his job performance. Scapegoating is pretending Trump is personally responsible a hundred thousand deaths or whatever and treating Fauci like some kind of wallflower.

Like I said: his top priority as an epidemiologist is to slow the spread and save lives. It's not his job to evaluate the psychological impact, or the economic effects.

You're stuck on that, though. It's a Fox opinion, but won't be the lasting narrative from the pandemic.

Why does everyone think I watch Fox lol?

Trump tried to ‘mitigate’ some of Fauci’s guidelines for the sake of other considerations and we saw how that turned out.

Biden is going to follow the sciencey science, so that effectively hands the economy over to Fauci. Or well, thankfully, some governors stopped listening to him.

He’s probably used to controlling it by now. Like I said, power is the most plausible theory.

Trump single-handedly politicized masks and distancing.

Again - the complaints about the economic effects are hollow. IF conservatives had joined the rest of America & just worn masks and distanced for a period of time, we likely wouldn't have a pandemic today.

But we had "hoax" and "talisman" and "freedom!" and all of that. We are in a pandemic, and no one wanted to do anything, even the most minor sacrifice to protect their fellow citizens.

In case you were wondering - THAT is the narrative that history will remember. Just how far we have fallen from the Greatest Generation, who sacrificed so much more when confronted with their global threat. People can't even be bothered to wear a mask in a store today.

Well, our numbers are dropping all over the place and apparently it had nothing to do with masks lol.

Democrats politicized the virus to no end. It was a forgone conclusion that Democrats were going to hang the China virus around Trump’s neck like a dead albatross. And it worked. There’s your ‘hoax’.

Now Biden comes along while our numbers are dropping—even though he didn’t have a damn thing to do with it. So it will be spun as a Biden victory over the virus. Only question is the details.

Take it to the bank. Like Jane Fonda said “the virus was a godsend to the left”. Boy, was it ever. It changed everything.

There is no Fauci cult. He is looked to because he is an expert on epidemics. That is why we want him talking instead of Trump. The pandemic is changing regularly. Fauci responds to the changing conditions. There are now 7 new variations. Dealing with them is not wavering, but responding to the changing conditions. Rightys are so full of crap.
There is nobody more qualified than Fauci.

Ok. Then why are you, or any of us, ever leaving our homes? Why are not on a full lockdown? No contact with anyone is the only way we will have no deaths from COVID. Otherwise you are being brave with somebody else's health right?

Schools should be open. Period. So says the science. The unions are flat out wrong. If my kid can work every day at Target, then the damn teachers can do their jobs.

You're STILL downplaying masks.

#'s are dropping in large part because millions of people getting vaccinated. And Biden has everything to do w/ that.

On Biden's 1st day, he put out 6 EO's that changed the paradigm on vaccine distribution and administration, which greatly accelerated the rate of vaccinations. Where Trump was averaging a million a week and blaming everyone from Dem governors to healthcare professionals, Biden took charge right away - and by some odd coincidence, within a week we were average not a million a week, but a million a day. I think it's actually close to 2 million a day now.

I'll take that narrative any ol' day. If Biden had been President a year ago, we'd probably be done w/ COVID by now. It's all about results.

I get the politics behind this. Teachers unions support Democrats so people on the left are generally more receptive to their wishes and people on the right aren’t.

This issue though seems to transcend that (somewhat). Anecdotally I’ve seem people in the Bay Area who are more politically progressive calling for schools to be reopened. I know they don’t want to put teachers (and kids) in harms way but it’s following the science like you said.
