There are some good points here but I disagree with the overall message of the article. Yes, there is plenty of blame to go around, but the main message of the article sort of makes blacks the heavies.

There's nothing genetically wrong or violent about black people. Poverty grips blacks because of the way America has treated them. Blacks have the most at stake in solving the problem, but it is still an AMERICAN problem, not a black problem. Whites who shrug their shoulders and say 'I can't do anything about that' are part of the problem. We have to spread awareness and look for those issues where systemic racism holds poor blacks down. Our criminal justice system, our response to drug abuse, our education system all need reform. Some of the things we've tried have not only not worked, but created secondary problems. We have to address and fix this as a nation. We need a system that allows families of all income levels to stay together and have time for regular together sit-down meals. Capitalism is partly to blame - for over-working far too many and destroying family values.

While the black community votes pretty strongly one way they're not monolithic in their views. As stated Jason Riley is a black conservative. I've read a lot of his work and it's probably not surprising people on the liberal side of the political isle don't agree with it all. But it shows there's not just one vision going forward.

Much of todays racism is from boomers and they are fading fast. Each generation improves on the last and our youth are much less racist than their elders. Wait a minute. How is capitalism to blame? Capitalism is the greatest invention in the history of civilization. Sure, some business owners exploited their employees but they were in the minority. I agree with everything you said above except for that. I've lived long enough to see how the end of segregation has benefited America. It's just criminal that it took so long.

Yeah it does go back further than that 50 years wasn't enough. The Everly Brothers were formed by a label because they sounded black and people would not buy black music at the time. I would also say blacks and music have been accepted a lot longer than they have in acting

50 years ago there was an official White Australia policy and Brits were ' blacking up ' and singing ' Mammy ' with white gloves on at The London Paladium.
I've seen the movies.
It wasn't as bad as the USA ' Strange Fruit ' plague- but it was very, very sick, apparently. The election of Obama was a victory for humanity and it broke the hearts of America's White Supremacists- and brought them into the daylight like squeezed boils. Trump is the last of a line, a reactionary. Like you say- when the boomers have gone equality will come naturally.
