COVID argues otherwise......they checked to see what they could get away with and the answer is pretty much anything.
 
FUN FACT: During COVID the people in charge ran constant polling to see how well the brain washing via massive propaganda and lies was working, and then set policy at the max authoritarian that the polls indicated they could get away with.
 
Its only the public polls that are fiction.....private/regime polling tends to still be real......but the experts are having trouble getting it right for a few different reasons.
